Life is a Song

Ezra Standish wandered into the secretarial department, distractedly reading from a file. He was going to ask for some copies to be made in order to share the information with the rest of Team Seven. Noticing only one secretary in at this time, he headed over to her desk. When the Southerner reached his objective, he overheard the music coming from the small portable CD player on the bookshelf behind the assistant's desk. It sounded familiar, but couldn't quite place it.
He handed Marie the file with the necessary information, letting her know when he needed the copies. All of a sudden he recognized the tune. Unthinkingly he asked, "Is this from the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Musical?"
"Yes it is," she answered, amused. "How do you know that?" She lifted her eyebrows, waiting for his explanation.
Ezra looked like the proverbial deer in the headlights. He stammered, "I, uh, I just..." The undercover agent allowed his sentence to trail off and stuck his nose back in the paperwork, hoping that she would let his slip go.
No such luck.
Having too much fun, the woman prompted, "You just what?"
Certain his face was now crimson, he answered, "I was flipping through the stations and must've passed it."
"Un huh," the secretary grinned knowingly. "And you just happened to flick past during this spot in this specific song?"
"Well... I..." Again, Ezra trailed off, looking for a graceful way to escape. He just hoped she didn't tell the other guys about this. He'd never live it down!
But seeing his chagrinned expression, Marie let the agent off the hook. She picked up the file he'd placed on her desk. "You said you wanted this by Thursday, right?"
The undercover agent's relief was palpable. "Yes, thank you." He backed away toward the door, stuttering, "Th-thank you very much."
After his quick exit, Marie went back to work, smiling to herself. He shouldn't be embarrassed; it's a very good show.
